The cat climbs where the wolf can't reach

By the river on a bench
Is where it had to end
As the cigarette burnt away.
She said "It wasn't you but I
And it wasn't a lie
But I might just hurt you one day."

Diamonds from her eyes
Fell to the stone but where no prize
And in them I felt no victory.
The only trophy was her thanks
After I helped her through the banks
Of hurt. But I was suffering.

And it hit me 'like a freight train'
Is what they say,
Paralyzing pain
In every way.
But I've had my moments peace
In the silence in between
Realities. So I hope I'll be ok.

Fading down to
That river bottom
Wading around
The bloody coffin
Rising up
To breath
Climbing ashore
To leave.
